Deir el-Kreim, Lebanese Maronite
Missionary Order, Jounieh, Lebanon
![]() HMML executive director Father Columba Stewart, OSB with former Superior General Father Khalil Alwan (center) and the librarian, Father Ignatios Saadeh. © HMML 2007 The Lebanese Maronite Missionary Order was founded by a Lebanese Maronite bishop, Yuhanna Habib, in the mid-nineteenth century. Also known as the “Kreimistes” from the name of their Motherhouse, Deir al-Kreim (“Monastery of the Vineyard”), north of Beirut, the Order undertakes a variety of works, including a well-known high school in Jounieh, Lebanon. The manuscript collection has been assembled from the parishes and other sites visited by members of the Order since its foundation, and now consists of approximately 1000 manuscripts in Syriac, Arabic, and Karshuni (Arabic written with Syriac letters). HMML began digitizing the collection in Spring 2007. Learn more about the Maronite Catholic Church. Finding Manuscripts from This Project in OLIVER, HMML's Online Manuscript Database
