The Hill Museum & Manuscript Library and the Malta Study Center are pleased to support the Rose Ensemble with its winter performance, "A Christmas in Baroque Malta." Guest artists Charles Weaver (theorbo) and Paula Fagerberg (Baroque harp) join the group for a rare program of 17th-century works from Maltese archival sources. The Ensemble will also present a world premiere performance of a work in the Maltese language composed by Minnesota composer Timothy Takach, "Il-presepju tal-Milied" (“The Christmas Cradle”) by composer Takach, who describes the work. “The piece is sung in Maltese, and each small stanza describes a detail of the nativity,” he says. “Like many Christmas texts, this one talks about the wonder that was present among those nearby - not believing the lowly birth for the Son of God,” he says. “The music reflects that mystery and wonder, in a chromatic, but singable, folk melody.”
