Notarial Deposition, establishing possession of the castle of Rugat.Single sheet with text lost at bottom where another sheet was attached. Archivist's note in large black ink at top of back reads "Le acte es de juant se feu lo cambi de Rugat en lo lloch de Recalany, que amostra don J. Bellluis com era seu". Chirograph, issued in Valencia.

The Valencian notaries Vinet de Jusseu and Matheu Climant registered this deposition to establish the claim of Johan de Bellvís (or Johannes de Pulcroviso) to the castle of Rugat in the territory of Resalany. To prove his claim he produced the text of a Latin letter, issued by Pere IV of Aragón, dated 4 March 1355 [sic], in which the king confirmed the will of Pere de Montagut. This will had left the castle to Bellvís in the event that Pedroleto de Montagut, nephew of Pere, died without heirs. However, Pere de Montagut's will could not be settled until the debts left by his mother, Toda Enyeguez, were paid, and it was difficult to identify her creditors because of the high mortality in Valencia caused by the plague.

The castle of Rugat was originally an islamic fortress; it belonged to the Aragonese crown until the middle of the fourteenth century. It passed to the monastery of Valldigna in 1339. The village of Resalany is now deserted.

The will of Johan de Bellvís is mentioned again in Steiner 3 (1398), in which the monks of the abbey of Valldigna contest the possession of Resalany with Vidal de Vilanova.
