Rolls are large sheets of parchment, which are attached to each other at top and bottom and are stored rolled in a cylinder. The medieval English chancery kept most of its records on rolls, but the practice was far less common in the Iberian peninsula, whose notaries preferred bound registers for the maintenance of records. Thus, these three items are rare examples of Iberian rolls.
