The contents of this section consist of 3349 genealogical records submitted by applicants to the Order of the Hospital's tribunal of nobility between 1522 and 1798.  Prospective Knights of Justice had to prove several generations of noble status.  Serving Brothers and Knights of Obedience were not required to prove noble descent and did not submit proof of nobility.

The Proofs of Nobility are divided into four parts, according to nationality.   Within each nationality the knights are sorted according to priory.  The names are not in alphabetical or chronological order.  In order to find individual knights, click on the hyperlink and use your browser's "Find in Text" function to locate the name. You may also find records for particular knight by searching the online catalogue and entering the last name in the "Title" field. Be aware that there may be variant spellings.

This data was compiled from inventory cards prepared within the National Library of Malta during the Hill Monastic Manuscript Library Malta microfilming project in 1993 and 1994.   Theresa M.
