Scholars visiting HMML may view both microfilm and digitized images of complete manuscripts without charge.

Scholars at a distance who desire access to complete manuscripts in digital form or on microfilm should complete the order form. Permission from the owning institution may be required for duplication of microfilm or of digital images. Screen-resolution digital copies of manuscripts will be delivered on password-protected CD or DVD disks. High-resolution images from manuscripts captured in digital form are available by special request and with the permission of the owning institution

Our manuscript holdings are catalogued by country, city, owning library, and shelf mark. Please use these designations when you are making an inquiry, requesting a microfilm to view at HMML, or ordering a microfilm or printouts for purchase. Usually we cannot locate manuscripts by genre.

If you are using our online catalogue and have an inquiry, please include the source number from the record. The online catalogue helps find manuscripts by author, title, or incipit. This online catalogue currently contains over 79,000 of the 90,000 inventory records in HMML's collection. As a work in progress, there are errata and potentially inaccurate entries. HMML welcomes corrections from users.

Manuscript images are for scholarly or educational use only. Copyright resides with the owning institution and with HMML. Duplication of microfilm or digital images is forbidden without permission. Publication of images requires prior permission sought through HMML. Violations of copyright will be pursued. Users of these images agree to cite the Hill Museum & Manuscript Library, Saint John's University, Collegeville, Minnesota, and the owning institution of the manuscript in any publications referring to these images and/or their content. They also agree to submit two copies of any published work containing references to HMML's microfilms or digital images to HMML (one copy will be forwarded to the owning institution).

 

Do not send money with your order. You will receive an invoice, which may be payable by check, (we only accept checks that are written in U.S. dollars drawn on a U.S. bank), International Money order or credit card.

Copies of whole manuscripts (black and white positive only: $50.00 (North America) $60.00 (outside North America) per film (plus shipping).

Manuscript Images Made Available Online
In some situations, manuscript images can be made available online or as downloadable files. Contact HMML for details and pricing.

Color prints of individual folia from digitized manuscripts are available for $5.00 per 8" x 10" print from a color original, (plus service fee and shipping). Minimum service fee per printout order: $25.00 per hour.

(15 folia or less, from a manuscript only) from bitonal microfilm are available for $ .75 per frame (plus service fee and shipping). Minimum service fee per printout order: $25.00 per hour.

Black and white photocopies made by visiting researchers are priced at $.05 per page. Printouts made on HMML's networked laser printers are $.10 per page.

An administration fee of $10 per library will be added to every order. The fee supports the preservation work of HMML and may include a additional royalty fee paid to the owning institution.

The administration fee is waived for scholars from owning institutions desiring copies of the institution's own materials, and for Friends of HMML

Scholars from the Middle East, Africa and south Asia qualify for a modified fee schedule; please inquire for details.
