The World War II bombing of Dresden by Allied Forces, the flooding of Florence's River Arno two decades later, the more recent obliteration of manuscripts and works of art in Afghanistan by the Taliban government, and the looting of the library and archaeological museum in Baghdad destroyed
priceless collections of literary and artistic treasures. Awareness of the potential of future threats, both human and natural, to fragile world treasures prompted visionaries at Saint John's Abbey and University to establish the Hill Museum
& Manuscript Library (HMML) in 1965. Your help can ensure the future of this endeavor.
We invite your support of the largest archive of medieval manuscripts on microfilm in the world. The Friends of the Hill Museum & Manuscript Library are book lovers, scholars, students, and concerned citizens who share a commitment to preserve the legacy of the handwritten book and to promote the study of our intellectual and cultural heritage. As a Friend, you have the opportunity to share in HMML's work of preserving and studying the cultural legacies of Western, African, and Middle Eastern civilizations, handed down on the pages of manuscript books. Through your Friends membership, you will help increase public awareness of the nature and significance of the microfilm, digital, and supporting collections, and assist in scholarly and public access to the collections. Your investment will ensure the development of a growing network of financial support for the programs and activities of HMML. |
